Chopard LUC Quattro Mark IV 161954

Four barrels, Nine-day power reserve, and a platinum 39 mm case that wears very well are just a few of the attributes that make up what might be one of the most underrated, overlooked, or speak softly and carry a big stick watches to be released in the last two years.  Featuring a frosted texture previously seen on the Full Strike Titanium ($225K+ ‘price on request’), it’s an intricate texture that looks luxurious, it has real depth, the beautifully changes color with the ight.  The mirror polished indices and hands complete the package, as does the lovely onion-esque crown that’s a joy to operate with very positive actuation and feeling to the different setting positions.

Offered as a complete set down to the original purchase invoice, stickered lugs and caseback, and an additional quick release strap, a system that works so well it’s amazing we aren’t demanding this of more manufacturers.  This is truly an impressive offering that quietly punches well above its peers and price tag.

Case: The 39 x 46.5 x 10.4 mm platinum case is in very nice overall condition with caseback and lug stickers still intact.  I particularly love Chopard’s Bee hallmark engraved between the bottom lugs.  There are minor surface scratches present on the polished bezel as photographed.

Dial: The “frosted” blue dial is gorgeous with the applied signature appearing to float above the tremblage-esque texture.  Everything on the dial is in perfect balance and harmony and finished to an impressive subtle detail.  The dial is free from any defects.

Movement: The L.U.C. 98-09-L manually wound movement features two pairs of stacked barrels that represent 1,885 meters of spring good for nine days of power reserve!  That on its own is impressive, delivering that power consistently enough over that run span to also be COSC certified is next level. The watch also features one the slickest integrations of quickset date located within the small seconds.  

Strap: The watch is presented on a signed brown alligator quick change strap paired with its original platinum buckle. An additional gray textured strap is also included. Both straps measure approximately 115 x 80 mm.
