The reference 3796 just might be the king or archetype for the neo-vintage category of watches. The same proportions and (largely the same) design as the truly iconic reference 96 updated with a more robust movement, case, sapphire crystal, gaskets, etc. It’s a reference I was always concerned might feel too sterile or modernized compared to the warmth and charm of its vintage inspiration, though I am pleased to report I have not found that to be the case, and absolutely love wearing a 3796. The wide flat bezel feels potentially more pronounced than the 96, possibly due the flatter sapphire crystal, adding to the overstated presence of the measured case diameter that wears beautifully on wrist. Finding them in great condition, especially in white metal, and especially as a full set is becoming increasingly difficult making this a very attractive offering.
The reference 3796 has fully captured my heart and quickly became one of those references I’m perpetually seeking out and always want on hand. This particular example has a clean and crisp case and accompanied by a very full set including 2025 service receipt.
Case: The 30.5 x 38.5 x 6.7 mm solid white gold case is very sharp and crisp with minor surface scratches commensurate with normal wear. The case appears to be unpolished and the hallmarks are crisply defined.
Dial: The brushed silver dial is clean and free of defects, providing a beautiful backdrop to the polished and faceted hands and markers.
Movement: The caliber 215 PS manually wound movement is traditionally finished under the closed caseback and proved to be a reliable, robust movement. The watch is winding, setting, and running smoothly at approximately +0.1 s/d, averaged across 6 positions. The service box, service hang tag, and service papers from 2025 are included.
Strap: The watch is presented on a signed black alligator strap in short length, measuring 115 x 80 mm, paired with a matching white gold pin buckle. The strap is in very good shape and appears to have been paired at service.
Includes: Original outer and inner boxes, travel pouch, museum brochure, manual, AD list, registration paper, undated Certificate of Origin, service box, service hang tag, and service receipt.
