Rolex Datejust 16014 Full Set
Rolex Datejust 16014 Full Set
Truly one of the nicest Datejusts I’ve had the privilege of offering, this reference 16014 is a time capsule back to late 1983 / early 1984. The condition of the watch throughout suggests it may not have even been worn, or if it was, it was very sparingly. Most telling is in the tightness of the bracelet and bracelet clasp blades, adding to the overall narrative of the exceptional condition.
A Datejust is never not a good choice, especially a 5-digit reference Datejust, and specifically one in this condition and with this set. Truly a stunning offering.
Reference: 16014 Datejust
Case: The 36 x 45 x 12.5 stainless steel case is in excellent condition, with the only signs of wear or usage being some slight spring bar drag on the backs of the lugs from a previous bracelet removal. The case is believed to be unpolished and I hope the photos due justice to just how sharp and clean it is. The 816xxxx serial number is clearly legible between the lugs and is repeated on the document holder and punched papers.
Dial: The matte black dial is stunning, exhibiting very warm patina on the hands and dial and a vintage date wheel with open 6’s and 9’s. The tritium lume does not glow and is consistent and correct under UV light. The reference 16014 is a transitional reference of sorts, receiving the updated caliber but still preserving the domed acrylic crystal, blending modern functionality and vintage aesthetic in perfect harmony.
Movement: The 3035 automatic winding movement features quickset date and hacking seconds, functioning perfectly, averaging just + 0.75 s/d across 6 positions. Service history is unknown.
Bracelet: The jubilee bracelet is in exception condition with clasp blades so tight they don’t fall “open” when picking the watch up. The late 1983 date code on the clasp corresponds to the period correctness and originality of this wonderful set. The bracelet will fit an approximate 7-5/8” wrist.
Includes: Outer box, inner wooden presentation box, serial matching documents holder, punched papers dated February 1984, booklet, 1984 calendar, and Oyster hang tag.
