Rolex Daytona 16523 Zenith

The “Zenith Daytona” represents one of, if not the, last collectible standard productions Daytona's, perfectly representing the neo-vintage era, straddling the line between vintage with its classic case proportions, Zenith movement, and tritium lume and modern with its sapphire crystal, robust construction, and screw down crown and pushers.

As Zenith Daytona’s go, this one has “it”, with a rich champagne dial and complementing the warm, rich gold bezel, center links, and crown and pushers that have aged and darkened slightly deepening the charm. It’s one of those watches that just puts a big smile on your face every time you look at wrist. I love the serif fonts and the cherry red DAYTONA text that perfectly complement the very strong condition of the case.

Case: The 40 x 47 x 12.5 mm stainless steel case is adorned with yellow gold bezel, crown, pushers, and center links. The case is in very good condition, appearing to be potentially unpolished with crisply defined finishing and even proportions throughout.  The "S" serial number represents a 1993 production with the case and reference numbers crisply legible.

Dial: The “MK4” “inverted 6” sunburst champagne dial provides richness and warmth while the black sub-register rings add a serious sportiness to it that prevent it from feeling dated. The tritium markers and hands have aged a light patina and react consistently and appropriately to UV exposure.

Movement: The automatic winding caliber 4030 is a heavily modified Zenith El Primero base that is winding, setting, and running perfectly at approximately -2 s/d, averaged across 6 positions.

Bracelet: The two tone bracelet is in very nice, tight condition exhibiting minor surface swirls to the polished center links as pictured. The "S12" clasp code indicates 1993-1994 period correct production. The 12 link bracelet has two removable links and will fit up to a 7.25” wrist.
