Five-digit sports Rolex hits such a sweet spot for ultimate versatility, wearability, heritage retaining designs and sizing, and modern practicality, robustness, and reliability. The black dial reference 16570 has always been a bit overlooked, sitting in the Polar Explorer’s shadow, but I do think that’s what makes it a very compelling choice. More utilitarian, more subdued, more versatile, less flashy, and every bit as robust and great as the white dialed variant, and at a discount.
This particular example is in very nice, honest and strong condition throughout with the later D serial case providing more modern construction with the use of solid end links and super luminova on the dial.
Reference: 16570 or 16570 T
Case: The 40 x 47.5 x 12 mm “16570 T” is in very strong, sharp, and well-defined condition with chamfers clearly preserved, with only the most minor signs a very light previous polish to the polished side surfaces took place. The “T” case is correct for the later production, indicating it is the no-holes construction with solid end links. The original caseback sticker is still intact with the hologram pattern faintly visible. The reference number and "D" serial indicating 2005 production are also sharply intact.
Dial: The black super luminova dial is free from any imperfections.
Movement: The caliber 3185 movement was just inspected and regulated, running perfectly within COSC spec at approximately +1 s/d, averaged across 6 positions. Winding, setting, date change, and hour jumping are all functioning properly.
Bracelet: The 78790A solid link Oyster bracelet appears to be original to the watch with “MA11” date code indicating November 2005 production. The watch has the correct MA78790 A solid end links as well and is in very good overall condition with minimal stretch and will fit an approximate 7” wrist.
