Cartier Tortue CPCP Ref. 2496C
Cartier Tortue CPCP Ref. 2496C
A signature classic in Cartier’s catalog, the Tortue is decidedly beautiful and interesting, but the unusual case shape can be difficult to understand in photos alone. On the wrist, however, the watch absolutely sings with beautiful proportions and a profile that sits extremely well and very comfortably. Hailing from my personal favorite line of “special” Cartiers, the neo-vintage CPCP era, this one perfectly blends classic styling and proportions, modern practicality, and expert finishing.
Case: The 34 x 43 x 9.8 mm solid gold case is in very nice condition with crisp hallmarks intact, and beautiful blue cabochon crown. In full transparency, I am unable to determine if this watch is rose gold or yellow gold, as it definitely has a warmth and more reddish tone, but I have been unable to identify a way to distinguish between the metals (please reach out if you know).
Dial: The Cartier Paris Collection Privee hand guilloche dials are some of my favorite, made from 18K gold, featuring intricate manual guilloche work, the secret signature at 7, and the CPCP signature flower pattern at the handstack. Complemented by heat blued pomme hands, the CPCP dials combine traditional high watchmaking, timeless aesthetics, and signature style. The dial is free from any imperfections.
Movement: The ultra-thin, manually wound Cartier caliber 430MC / Piaget 430P is just 2.1mm thick and beautifully decorated with the repeating logo pattern on display, as a signature of the CPCP era. The watch is winding, setting, and running well, service history is unknown.
Includes: Presented on its original Bordeaux colored strap with matching 18K deployant clasp. The strap will fit up to a 7 - 1/8” wrist.
