One of the more interesting 40 mm Luminor models from Panerai, the PAM244 offers traditional Lumnior styling such as the curved case shape, latch crown guard, the large baton and Arabic hour markers, with the extra detail and functionality through the addition of a GMT function. The design is distinctly PAM but in a pleasantly wearable (even for my wrist) size that sits well on the wrist. The watch is legible, easy to use, with details on offer throughout. Perhaps one of the coolest parts is the COSC chronometer certificate, documenting all the readings and measurements for this watch to pass. With sharp facets, excellent legibility and usability, the 244 represents an overall value in today’s market, delivering a lot of watch for the money.

Case: The 40 (46 with crown guard) x 48 x 15.5 mm stainless steel case is in excellent condition throughout, appearing to be unpolished with extremely sharp angles and corners where the cushion case meets. A few minor surface swirls on the polished bezel are present, as photographed. This case wears exceptionally well, even on small wrists, sitting balanced and comfortable.

Dial: The matte black dial is very saturated, providing a lovely backdrop to the serious nature of Panerai’s distinct styling. The internally magnified date window is a nice touch, and I’ve always had a soft spot for the purpose driven running seconds at 9.The dial is free from defects with a lovely tritium yellow color to the lume.

Movement: The Calibre OP VIII is a Valjoux 7750 base that has been COSC certified and offers hacking seconds, quickset date, and jumping GMT hand. The watch is winding, setting, and running smoothly at approximately – 0.3 s/d, averaged across 6 positions.

Strap: The watch is presented on its original brown alligator strap measuring 115 x 75 in length, fitted to its original deployant buckle. The strap is used in nice condition and is pleasantly supple and comfortable.
