Tiffany & Co. Patek Philippe Gondolo Ref. 5124G Full Set
Tiffany & Co. Patek Philippe Gondolo Ref. 5124G Full Set
The reference 5124G-011 Gondolo was launched at Baselworld 2015 and here we have a like new, appearing to never have been worn (save for my listing photos), example making for an already special offering of “deadstock”, now ten years on. Then, let’s take it decidedly further with a Tiffany & Co. stamped dial, box, and paperwork, making it possibly the first in this configuration to come to market (please DM if you’ve found another blue Tiffany dial), and you can start to see this is a truly special offering.
Taking a more objective look, the 5124 is very interesting; the caliber 25-21 REC PS was the brand’s first non-round caliber since the famous caliber 9-90 and clearly honors the legacy of the storied calibers before it with a classic architecture, layout, and finishing, modernized with the Gryromax balance. The art-deco inspired case wears remarkably well thanks to its curved profile and just 7.5 mm thickness. The dial is certainly no slouch and the finishing and construction feels luxurious at first glance with highly polished and faceted hands and indices laid into the contrasting outer minutes track and the highly dynamic soleil or sunburst blue. The blue dial ranges from a saturated, stoic, rich navy to a bright almost cornflower blue in direct sunlight. The slightly sunken petite seconds dial with concentric circle finishing completes the traditionally high-finished package.
If the typical wisdom of something that’s well made but largely overlooked when released often lends to future collectability holds true, then the 5124 is certainly a strong candidate with this specific offering making the most compelling case with the added benefit of the Tiffany signature and full signed set and shop-worn-at-most excellent condition.
Case: The 33.4 x 42.5 x 7.5 mm solid white gold case is in excellent condition throughout, exhibiting ‘shop’ or ‘display’ wear, at most. The stepped wings flanking the sides of the case ensure it hugs the wrist exceptionally well and doesn’t fall victim to some watches that suffer from being ‘too thin’. The whole case is arched to wear comfortably and beautifully, and make it so much more than just a rectangular watch.
Dial: The sunburst blue dial is highly versatile and playful with light with a wide range of dynamic blues that really allow the high polished and faceted indices and hands to shine and prominently stand out and further connect the dial to the case design. It is free from any defects and becomes truly special with the inclusion of the Tiffany & Co. signature in the petite seconds dial.
Movement: The manually wound caliber 25-21 REC PS movement is winding, setting, and running smoothly at approximately -1.8 s/d, averaged across 6 positions. The watch has a classic Patek Calatrava architecture with prominent Cotes de Geneve, anglage, and Patek seal.
Strap: The watch is presented on its original signed navy alligator strap in standard 75 x 115 mm length with matching white gold pin buckle.
Includes: A full set complete with Tiffany & Co. outer box, Patek Philippe out box, wooden box with felt cover, leather document folder with museum brochures, manual, and Tiffany & Co. stamped certificate of origin with a March 4, 2022 date of sale.
