Rolex Explorer 1016 L-Serial with Papers
Rolex Explorer 1016 L-Serial with Papers
There’s just something about an honest 1016 that’s pretty tough to beat. One of the purest expressions of a tool watch and watches in general, the pure simplicity, balance, legibility, and restraint of an Explorer truly earns itself the title of an Icon. This particular example is honest and charming through and through, reminding you of a lifetime of stories before your enjoyment.
Case: The 36 x 44.5 x 11.8 mm stainless-steel case is very thick, full, sharp, and honest. It appears to have seen a very light polish in the past; however, the lugs remain thick, sharp, and relatively even. The L-Serial from circa 1989 and reference number engravings are sharp and well defined.
Dial: The matte black dial is free from any imperfections and exhibits very even light patina across the dial and hands that react consistently and appropriately to UV exposure.
Movement: The caliber 1570 automatic winding and hacking movement is running well at approximately +7 s/d, averaged across 6 positions.
Strap: The watch is presented on the correct 78360 solid oyster link bracelet with folded 580 end links. The clasp appears to be a replacement in good condition, stamped “VC” indicating an approximate 1978 date code. The bracelet contains three screws with one removable links and will fit an approximate 6-5/8” wrist.
Includes: The original “punched” guarantee certificate is included, with an October 1990 sale date. The certificate also includes the green edge printing matching the serial number.
